Edward Wade was born on a Friday, October 7, 1791, in Halifax County, Virginia, where he lived till he was 19 years of age. Then he in company of two brothers, one younger (Hampton?) and one older (Peter?) than himself started for Kentucky on April 2, 1810 and eventually they arrived in Christian County, Tennessee. They lived alternately at this place and in Montgomery County, Tennessee until the year 1813. He and his brother Hampton enlisted in the regular army for five years. They enlisted at Clarksville, Tennessee on 28 October 1813. His brother died January 21, 1814 at Fort Hampton near New Orleans, Louisiana. Edward served with General Jackson during the war of 1812-15, being engaged in the campaign about New Orleans. After the battle of New Orleans, he served in the regular army until his term expired, then he returned to his former home in Kentucky and Tennessee, there he married Mary Haggard on Tuesday, the 2nd day of June 1823.
In the spring of 1830, he, along with members of his family came to Illinois, stopping in Morgan County till the fall of 1831. He then moved to Hancock, County, and stopped on the Augusta Prairie one year, then moved onto his claim near Birmingham in Schuyler County where he farmed till the summer of 1856, when he sold his farm to Col. King and bought the residence in Plymouth where he resided until his death April 8, 1884, his wife died in May of 1882. He and his wife, being founders, were members in good standing of the Methodist Episcopal Church in this place, he having been a member over sixty-two years.
