John Newton Shanholtz was the son of William Shanholtzer and Abigail Heare. He was married to Martha Jane Carder; they share a stone.

John N. Shanholtz died December 15 at the home of his son, Vernon, near Three Churches, a the age of 94, having been born December 10, 1851.
Mr. Shanholtz was well known in that section and was a very useful and helpful citizen, and a friend to all.
His only immediate survivor is a son, Vernon.
Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, December 18, conducted by the Rev. Taylor Bird, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Baptist Cemetery at Three Churches. The pallbearers were George Mulledy, Earl Saville, William Mulledy, Robert Lewis, Howard Mulledy, and C. T. Pownell.
