Gaynell Thompson, 93, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, in Raleigh, where she had resided for the past 13 years.

She was born in Burke County, the daughter of the late Anderson and Dollie McBee McCall.

Gaynell was known for her wonderful generosity, strong faith in the Lord and great love for family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Thompson; her younger brothers, Clyde, Clarence, Forest, Carl and Bernie McCall.

She is survived by her son, Patrick Thompson and his wife, Magdalene, of Raleigh; grandchildren and their spouses, Vic and Mary Thompson of Huntersville, Jenny and Joe Kelvington of Raleigh and Susan and Shane McCarthy of Portsmouth, R.I.; and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ken Curtis and Larry Fletcher officiating.

Burial at Burke Memorial Park will follow the funeral.

The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 2314 Starnes St., Morganton, NC 28655.
