Actor. Often played nice guy roles in films primarily of the 1940s and 1950s. He was born Charles Ruppert in New York City and attended Drake College in Massachusetts. According to his obituary in the Los Angeles Times, he supported himself by selling boats and advertising as he began his acting career. He co-starred in films such as "Air Force" (1943), "You Came Along" (1945), "Winchester '73" (1950), "Gunsmoke" (1953), "The Glenn Miller Story" (1954), "To Hell and Back" (1955), "Back Street" (1961), and "The Arrangement" (1969). He also played hair-care giant Kevin Gilmore in the 1967 film adaptation of Jacqueline Susann's "Valley of the Dolls." (bio by: Donna Di Giacomo)

My favorite movie that Charles Drake starred in was called UNTIL THEY SAIL (1957) which takes place during World War II in New Zealand. He was fabulous in the role of Capt. Richard Bates and so handsome. May he rest in peace.
