Carl Salvin Baarson was born May 24, 1917 to Oscar and Jane (Anderson) Baarson in Odin, Minnesota. He attended rural country school District #12 in Long Lake Township, Watonwan County. On May 5, 1942, he entered the United States Army serving as a Tank Commander until his honorable discharge on November 1, 1945. On September 21, 1947, he was united in marriage to Florence Wolner at Long Lake Lutheran Church in rural St. James, Minnesota. After their marriage they farmed in Long Lake Township, Watonwan County, Minnesota. Florence died on June 18, 1994. Carl continued living on the farm until becoming a resident of Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James in September of 2006. Carl was a member of Long Lake Lutheran Church where he was involved with many of the Church duties. He also was a member of the Donald V. Larsen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9607. He greatly enjoyed farming, fishing, playing cards and doing puzzles.
Carl died on Monday evening, April 16, 2007 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James, Minnesota at the age of eighty-nine years.
Survivors include his three sons, Robert Baarson and his wife, Barbara, of St. James, Minnesota, David Baarson and his wife, Patricia, of Truman, Minnesota and Howard Baarson and his wife, Georgeen, of Ormsby, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; Amanda Sandy and her husband, Damain, Lindsay Kuehl and her husband, Eli, Phillip Baarson, Timothy Baarson and his fiancée, Gina, Vanessa Bettin and her husband, Jacob, Heather Baarson and her fiancée, Ryan Larson, Hilary Baarson and her special friend, Mitch Hage and Derek Baarson; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Pearl Steinveg of Blue Island, Illinois, Hazel Kuchenrither and her husband, LuVon, of Manson, Iowa, Myrtle Gerdes and her husband, Elmer of Manson, Iowa; brothers, Olgar Baarson and his wife, Florence, of Odin, Minnesota and Melvin Baarson of Odin, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Florence Baarson; three sisters, Inga, Josephine and Doris; brother, John "Albert" Baarson; brothers-in-law, Ken Pugler, Walter Steinvig, Cliff Nelson, Melford Yager; sisters-in-law, Irene Baarson and Maxine Baarson and other relatives.
