RALPH LEO ABNEY, 80, of Marlow, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2007 in Marlow.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Christ in Marlow, with Jason Bentley officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.
Ralph was born December 3, 1926 in Stephens County, Oklahoma, to Marshall Amos and Mary Elizabeth Cowley Abney. He attended school at Sand Hill and Bray. Ralph joined the U.S. Army and served during WWII. He lived in Stephens County all of his life.
Ralph married Mary Charlene McLearen on March 17, 1945 in Duncan. They have shared 62 wonderful years together. In 1985, Ralph retired as Chief of Police in Marlow after 28 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Ralph was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Church of Christ in Marlow.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Abney of the home; a son, Chris Abney and Kathy of Marlow; two daughters, Lynda Sweat husband Martin of Marlow, and Robbie Inda and husband J.D. of Guthrie; six grandchildren, Mechelle McAdams, Cristi Stienkie, Zach Abney, Amanda Abney, Tracy Steelman and Michael Bryant; seven great-grandchildren, Clayton Sweat, David Sweat, Kelly McBee, Austin McBee, Lizzi Steelman, Aiden Steelman and Lillie Steelman; two sisters, Bobby Nell Brennan of Hanford, Calif., and Velma Ruth Cheney and husband Ed of Lawton.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Leo Abney, and his parents.
Pallbearers will be Lloyd McAlister, Jr., Bob Hill, James Hansell Littrell, LeRoy Walker, Jack Brackett and Richard Pierce.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Marlow Police Dept.
