He was a Civil War Veteran. He enlisted as a volunteer in the Civil War, and was honorably discharged at the end of 3 months in 1863.
He married Louisa A. Scott (1835-1919) on May 19, 1853, in Mercer Co., Pa. They had 9 children, James C. Condit (born May 27, 1854), John W. Condit (born May 28, 1856), Margaret E. Condit (born Nov. 24, 1857), William Condit (born Apr. 19, 1860), Francis Ellsworth Condit (born May 4, 1862), Eva Ora Condit (born June 21, 1864), Harrison Scott Condit (born Mar. 11, 1867), Annette Jane Condit (born July 10, 1869), and Caroline Myrtle Condit (born Mar. 14, 1872).
His parents were William Condit and Margarette Gordon Condit. They moved to Pennsylvania 1859. He enlisted in the Civil War with Co. K, 55 Pennsylvania, and was discharged June 27, 1863.
He moved back to Washington County, Iowa, and farmed. After 2 years he returned to Pennsylvaia, but again settled in Iowa. In 1883, he moved to Ida County, Iowa, and in 1892 moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where he lived until he passed away.
