Obituary:
Valentine S. Hawk was born Dec. 18, 1831, in Jackson County, Ohio, and died at his home in Codell, Kansas, July 13, 1910, at the advanced age of 79 years. In 1864 he was married to Mrs. Mary A Brooks in Illinois, who had one daughter, now Mrs. Will Davenport.
Mr. Hawk came to Kansas in 1878 and settled on Sect 4 in Paradise Township. Several years ago he moved to Codell. After the death of his wife which occurred on the homestead he was again married to Mrs. Theresa Titus, Sept. 5, 1896.
The funeral services were held in the Methodist church of Codell. The remains were laid to rest in the Codell Cemetery.
The deceased was a corporal in Co. K, 59th Ill. Inf, and was wounded several times in battle.
