Politician, former professional football player. After recieving an undergraduate degree from Oregon State University where for two out of three years he was all-conference guard, the Hawaiian native was picked by the Washington Redskins where he played tackle for two years. After a stint as a high school football coach, he joined the Republican Party in 1953 when his father-in-law, Honolulu Mayor Neal Blaisdell (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSmid=46583062&GRid=18730422&), first ran for office. He was elected to the Hawaii State House in 1962 and served there until 1966, when he won his first term in the Senate. In 1969, Clark unhappy with the direction the Republican party was headed, switched to the Democratic Party. After his retirement, he moved to the Big Island where he lived til his death.
