Corporal, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment, based in Gagetown, New Brunswick. Age 23. He was born in Perth-Andover NB and lived in Lincoln NB. He is survived by his fiancée Jennifer and their young daughter Kayla; parents Edward and Kristine Williams; three sisters Tanya, Kim and Veronica; grandmother Myrna Burgoyne, and extended family. Predeceased by grandparents, Harold and Orpha Williams; grandfather, Eric Burgoyne, and Uncle Ernest Williams.
He was one of six Canadian soldiers killed after a roadside bomb exploded near their light-armoured vehicle 75 km west of Kandahar City, Afghanistan. Four soldiers survived the attack, although one had serious injuries. They were serving with NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in a major offensive against the Taliban. It was the largest single-day combat death toll suffered by Canadian troops since the Korean War.
Cpl Williams trained as a sniper and is remembered as a serious and staunch soldier.
Recipient of Sacrifice Medal (posthumous).
Funeral held on April 18, 2007 at Calvary Tabernacle in Perth-Andover NB. Interment in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
