For ten seasons (1970 to 1980), he played at the left-wing position in the National Hockey League with the Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and Washington Capitals. Born Gregory Linn Polis, he began his career with the Estevan Bruins in 1966 and became a highly-productive player in both goals-scored and assists. Selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins as the 7th overall pick during the 1970 NHL Draft, he scored 18 goals as a rookie during the 1970-1971 season. He followed this with 30 goals during 1971-1972. During the course of his career, he would top the 20-goal mark an additional three times. In 615 career regular season games, he compiled 174 goals, with 169 assists. After retiring from hockey, he became an automobile salesman. He died from cancer.
