African-American preacher and civil rights activist. He was the son of Charlie Alexander Watts and Mittie Harris. He married Betty Jean Garner on March 11, 1957, and together they had 14 children. He met with John Clary, Imperial Wizard of the KKK, and ended up becoming friends with him. Clary had tried to burn Watts' church down in earlier times, but later renounced his membership and ended up speaking at the same church. Watts was a friend of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and participated with Dr. King in the march for freedom, justice, and equality in Selma, Alabama. He was president of the NAACP Oklahoma Chapter for 16 years, was appointed to the Civil Rights Commission, and served 5 years as Chaplain at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary and Human Rights Commission. He was also the uncle of U.S. Congressman J. C. Watts, Jr.
