She was an amazing and loving wife, Momma and Mamaw, and her home and her heart, and especially her kitchen, were always open to anyone. The best baked goods were always being prepared and available in her kitchen, (Sue's Kitchen), and her heart's greatest desire was to give to her family and friends, and to make sure all were well fed, with a "you need to eat", or "are you hungry?"
Her love and care will be greatly missed by the love of her life for 60 years, Papaw Eugene, by all her family and friends, and by all who knew her; and perhaps by anyone who ever ate her fried pies, or dried apple stack cake, or lemon meringue pie, or biscuits and gravy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted Maples and Louise Hickam, and sister, Juanita Branam.
Survivors include her Husband of 59 years: Eugene Ownby; Children: Rev. Jeff and Megan Ownby, Tony and Elizabeth Ownby, Paige Ownby; Grandchildren: Jared and Beth, Erin and Ron, Zach, Savannah, Caleb, Madison Suzann, Destiney and Brandon, Ryan Grace, Rylee, Reese, Lauren, Taylor, and Will; Great-grandchildren: Ella Claire, Judson, Aubrey, Allie, Cecilia, Kayleigh and Jett; Sister: Nancy Manis, Nelda McCarter; Several nieces and nephews
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Thursday with a funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Ownby officiating. Family and friends will meet 9 AM Friday in Glades Cemetery for interment.
