She graduated from Northwest High School in 1974 and from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a degree in Education in 1977.
On August 4th, 1978, Janet married John Drieling of rural West Point, Nebraska. The ceremony took place at First United Methodist Church in Omaha.
Janet began her teaching career in Uehling, NE, teaching a combined 3rd/4th grade class. Janet taught for 27 years in the Omaha Public School district as a classroom teacher at Belvedere Elementary and as an ESL teacher at Franklin Elementary School. She had a passion for teaching and loved her school kids like they were her own, often volunteering her own time during summer break or helping to coach a sport.
In 2006, Janet began her battle with cancer. She was able to complete treatments while continuing to teach for 8 years before she decided to retire in 2014. She was thankful for all the wonderful people she met during her multiple surgeries, remissions, and treatments over the years. They definitely made the journey easier to endure.
