Fern Charlene Curless was born in Burrton, Harvey Co, Kansas on January 30, 1915 to Charles Harkless Curless and Flossie Elvina Barnes-Curless (later, Hendrix). She was a twin to her brother, Rev. Vernon B. Curless.

Before she was married she helped her mother with housework and the caretaking of her younger siblings. She married my grandfather, Clifford Jesse Goolsby. She subsequently married Kenneth Riggs, Art Dyche, Bert LeShure and James Ellington. She had 6 children, 3 of whom died in infancy. Two of her children (including my mother) are still living at this writing.

Grandma was involved in nursing the elderly, and took patients into her home on Grandview Ave. in Hutchinson. She took care of her mother, Flossie until her death in 1974. In addition, she was always involved in creative hobbies: making ceramics and crocheting. She was a very caring, active, intense lady, with an outgoing personality, and loved to laugh. She collected ceramic dog figures (we have some of them here), and always had a chihuahua dog in her home.

She died on April 5, 2002 in Hutchinson Hospital, Hutchinson, Kansas
