| Birth: | Jan. 15, 1770 Chestertown Kent County Maryland, USA | | Death: | Oct. 18, 1829 Frederick Frederick County Maryland, USA |  US Congressman. He was a successful agricultural businessman when appointed a member of the Maryland House of Delegates in 1795. He served in the Maryland State Senate from 1801 to 1806 and as judge of the levy court of Washington County, 1806 to 1810 and 1822 to 1826. In 1810, he was elected as a Republican to the Eleventh Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Roger Nelson and was reelected to the Twelfth and Thirteenth Congresses. He was also appointed a Brigadier General in the Maryland Militia and served in the War of 1812. In 1817, he was elected to the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Congresses, serving until 1821, when he resumed his agricultural pursuits.
