|Death: ||Jun., 1665|
He was the son and heir of Sir Edward Broughton. His mother was Frances, daughter of Edward Tyrell of Thornton, Bucks. He was born around 1610 and was Captain in the Gaurds, and was confined in the house prison, Westminster, just before the restoration. There he married the widow of the late keeper and subsequently became the keeper of the Gate Houe Prison. At some time between Oct. 24,,664 and his death in June 1665, He apparently was created a Baronet, or more probably had only a promise of such creation. His first wife was Alice, who was the 6th daughter of Sir Robert Honywood of Charing, Co. of Kent. They had no children.His second wife was Mary, the widow of Aquila Wyke, keeper of the the Gate House Prison. Sir Edward Broughton was mortally wounded in a sea fight with the dutch on June 3, 1665, but reached home and died there, and was buried on June 26,1665. he first and only surviving son of Sir Edward Broughton of Marchwiell was also name Edward. He succeeded his father to the Baronetcy in June of 1665. There is some question as to the question of this Baronetcy as indicated. It is conjectured that this might of been a promise after the sea fight of June 3, 1665, but due to his death occutrring so soon afterwards, the baronetage promised was not carried into effect.
