Leslie served as a Flight Officer & Pilot on B-25C #42-32291, 70th Bomber Squadron, 42nd Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Douglas County, Kansas & was previously a member of the Kansas National Guard prior to the war.
The National Guard unit he was previously a member of was called into full time active Army service on April 26, 1941, prior to the war, from Kansas. Since he had only been out of the Guard for less than three months he was called back into service with the unit. He was noted, at that time, as being employed as a Actor and also as Single, without dependents.
B-25C #42-32291, while on a Bomb-Strafe mission over Tobera Airfield, East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea was hit by ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed near Tobera. A witness noted that they thought the pilot himself had been hit causing the crash.
Leslie was first declared "Missing In Action" and once his remains were recovered after the war his status was changed to "Killed In Action".
He was awarded the Purple Heart.
