Vernon Raymond Wiemer, 74

March 6, 1943 ~ February 16, 2018

Vernon was born on March 6, 1943 to Raymond and Mildred (Sternberg) Wiemer at Lutheran Hospital in York, Nebraska.

He was baptized on March 28, 1943 at St. John’s Lutheran Church South Waco, Nebraska. His sponsors were his grandparents, Gerhard Wiemer and Emma Sternberg. He was confirmed on April 14, 1957 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, South Waco. Vernon’s confirmation verses were Psalms 143:10 "Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness" and Proverbs 23:26 "My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways".

He attended St. John’s Lutheran School South Waco through the 8th grade and then attended Utica, Nebraska High School, graduating in 1961.

During Vernon’s high school years he worked for a corn shelling crew with his father. Following high school graduation, Vernon attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for one year. He worked at Hughes Brothers Manufacturing for a short time.

On September 28, 1963, Vernon was united in marriage to Gloria Winkelman at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Utica, Nebraska. They were blessed with three children.

Vernon worked for Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD)as a lineman/serviceman and retired after 38 years.

He was a member of Flying U’ Riders Saddle Club and the Seward County Sheriff’s Posse. He enjoyed raising and training horses and farming the family farm in Waco where he had a small cow/calf herd. He also enjoyed deer hunting, raising sweet corn and gardening. He especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren and attended their many school activities.

Vernon passed away on February 16, 2018 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 10 days.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife; daughters: Rhonda (Scott) Hazard, of Anthon, Iowa; Jodi (Kyle) Shull, of Hornick, Iowa; son, Kevin (Missy) Wiemer, of Herman, Nebraska; brother, Verle (Jeanne) Wiemer, of Seward; sister, Verneta (Jim) Nordmeyer, Seward; grandchildren: Travis (Kayley) Hazard, Justin Hazard, Austin Hazard, Colton Wiemer, Wyatt Wiemer, Cora Shull, Jordan Shull; great-grandchild, Presley Hazard.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Gerhard and Martha (Epke) Wiemer, Hugo and Emma (Fischer) Sternberg.
