Emporia [KS] News Saturday March 21, 1863, page 3, column 2
Capt. C.S. Hills, of the 10th Kansas arrived in our town last evening. Capt. H. has been with his regiment in all the battles in Missouri and Arkansas. He has added to the well-armed laurels acquired while serving as an officer of Co. H, 2nd Kansas, under Gen. Lyon in the campaign of 1861, in Missouri. George Wait, H.G. Clark, A.G. Wilhite, Jas. H. Doile and Salis Moon, of Co. C, 11th Kansas, also returned on a brief visit to their families in this place. They reported the death of J.M. Wheeler of Eagle Creek in this county. The troops are now about fifty miles Southeast of Springfield. Our people have watched with deep interest the movements of the 11th and other regiments in which any of or boys were serving and have felt a just pride in their gallant conduct.
