MRS. MARGARET GROSS DIES AT INDEPENDENCE
-FUNERAL HELD AT COMMUNITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH HERE TUESDAY
Mrs. Margaret Gross, widow of the late Charles Martin Gross, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Haskell in Independence, Sunday, Aug. 2, 1931, after suffering a stroke of paralylis a few days before.
The body was brought to La Plata Tuesday at noon and the funeral services were held at the Community Presbyterian Church. Interment was made in the La Plata Cemetey by the side of her husband who passed away June 5, 1930.
Margaret Ann Griffin was born on Mar. 20, 1848, the daughter of James and Tabitha Griffin. She was married to Charles Martin Gross on Apr. 6, 1871. Eight children were born to this union, three having preceded their parents in death. Those living are Mrs. Charles Haskell of Independence, at whose home she died, James Gross of St. Louis, Jess Gross of Kirksville, Frank Gross of La Plata, and Norman Gross of Independence. One brother and three sisters also survive, W.J. Griffin of La Plata, Mrs. Catherine Atteberry of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. W.O. Wait of Jacksonville, Illinois, Mrs. Sallie Halstead of Carmen, Oklahoma, as well as a number of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Gross made her home in La Plata for many years and went to Independence with her daughter about three years ago to make her home, but was planning to return to La Plata sometime this month. Mrs. Gross was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church at Little Zion for a number of years.
