Lloyd Richard "Dick" Patchen died March 17, 2007 at Hill Top Home of Comfort, Killdeer, ND.
Dick Patchen was born on November 9, 1928 in Glendive, Montana, the son of Lyman and Engel (Howell) Patchen. He was raised in Bismarck where he graduated from Bismarck High School in 1948 and from Bismarck Junior College in 1950. He played football and ran track as a sprinter in high school and college. He was an All-State football player in high school and also a college and state track champion. He and his brother Russ were two of the top sprinters in the state in both high school and college. Dick was a member of the North Dakota National Guard, served his term and was honorably discharged. He married Jeri Burke on June 4, 1953. He worked for the Bismarck Tribune and then taught and coached at Beach, ND. They moved back to Bismarck where he worked for OMF until his retirement. After his retirement they moved to Killdeer where he resided until his death.
Dick enjoyed hunting with his brother Russ and lifelong friend Jerry Olson. He enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids participate in athletics.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, one son Marc (Jo) Patchen, Bismarck, one daughter Pam (Wayne) Hatzenbuehler, Solen, his daughter-in-law Janel Patchen, Bismarck, his brother Russ, Bismarck, sister Shirley (Connie) Christianson, Stacy, MN, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and many close friends.
He was prededed in death by his parents, his son Richard "Rick" Patchen and recently by his sister-in-law Mazie Patchen.
