Birth: Jan. 19, 1784
Death: Aug. 18, 1851

William and Jerusha JORDAN eloped. They were married by John Chassereau in his home. (Chassereau was listed as a resident of Barnwell Co. in the 1800 census.) Jerusha was 19 years old when wed. According to Jerusha, no official document, nor family bible recorded the event. However, several sworn affidavits, made by people who knew William and Jerusha early in their lives and by Jerusha herself, were made that verify the marriage as occurring just before or after New Years, 1806-1807.

According to the pension document posted for his wife, Jerusha, William Beard was a Sergent in Capt. Moses Singleton's Co., S. C. Militia during the War of 1812. His widow received a pension late in life based on his service in the amount of 160 acres of land according to the pension document in the National Archives.
According to this document he was drafted into Captian Bedon's Company, S.C. Militia, at Double Bridge or Barnwell Courthouse on or about June 29, 1813 for a two month term of service. This company was part of Colonel William Youngblood's Regiment. During the period of his service he found himself moved to the command of Capt. Moses Singleton from which he was discharged, as Sergent, at Field's Point on or about 29th August 1813.

William died in his residence in Barnwell County, SC on August 18, 1851.

Jerusha was apparently illiterate. She signed her pension documents with an "X" or "+".

(If anyone knows anything or has any clues about William or Jerusha's parentage or the names of siblings. I would be most grateful to learn of them and to add them here.)
