Mrs. McGee was a daughter of Mary A. Clark and George Washington Bethards. She attended Fayette Academy of Fayette, MS and Jena Seminary at Jena, where she earned a teacher's certificate. She moved to West Monroe in 1907.
In 1957, she was elected the "First Mother of the Year" by the Neville High School Alumni Association. In 1960, she was made honorary life member of Women of the Church at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in West Monroe, where she was a charter member.
She was survived by three sons, Warren B. McGee of West Monroe, George O. McGee of New Orleans and Donald W. McGee of Ponca City, OK; six daughters, Mrs. Roy Grant of Ringgold, Mattie Stewart, Jennette Mahaffey, and Katie McGee, all of West Monroe, Mrs. Travis A. Brown and Mrs. Fred B. Brownlee, both of Monroe; one sister, Mrs. Harry Buatt of Monroe; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
