A. LeROY LARSEN, 83

LeRoy “Rowdy” Larsen, 83, of Blair, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Orum Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Alfred LeRoy Larsen was born July 20, 1921, in Spiker to Hans and Margaret (Christensen) Larsen.

Mr. Larsen farmed with his parents, and later farmed for himself. He entered the trucking business in Blair in 1949. He later expanded into the feed, seed and fertilizer business. In 1962, he sold the business and in 1963, moved to Omaha. He was employed by N.P. Dodge Real Estate and later by the Omaha Housing Authority as modernization director.

In 1972, he returned to Blair, and started the LeRoy Larsen realty and appraisal business. He was one of Blair’s biggest real estate developers and built many of Blair’s new homes, as well as several apartment complexes and duplexes.

Mr. Larsen was active in his community, serving on the Blair City Council and was involved with a number of community projects. He belonged to several organizations, and was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Masons, and Tangier Shrine.

In 1946, he married Janette Garske of Omaha. The couple had one son, Larry.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sandra Larsen of Blair; three grandchildren and their families; six great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Betty Larsen of Fremont; brother-in –law, Ray Hooks of Tucson, Ariz., and sister-in-law, Elaine Larsen of Blair; loving friend, Rosemarie Brummer, and special friend, Dorothy Taylor; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ervin, and a sister, Gladys Hooks.

His family notes that he spent many months in area hospitals and had fond memories of the nursing care he received. In recognition of that care, a generous donation will be given to the Washington County Nurses Association for a student nurse’s scholarship fund. Mr. Larsen requested that any memorials be given to that scholarship fund, Good Shepherd Home, or First Lutheran Church in Blair.
