| Birth: | Aug. 19, 1875 | | Death: | Dec. 19, 1934 |  Sam was born on August 19, 1875 near Trenton, Gibson County, Tennessee. He was the 4th son and the 7th child in a family of 8 children born to Thomas M and Sarah Jane Banks Foster. Thomas and Sarah were both born in Davie County, North Carolina, Thomas in 1835 and Sarah in 1837. They married in Davie County, North Carolina in August 1859 and continued to live in Davie County until 1870 when they moved to Gibson County, Tennessee. Thomas was a carpenter by trade, but in those days everyone in a rural area lived on a farm. So Thomas did some farming along with his carpenter trade.
