Raymond served as Corporal on B-24J #42-50534, 1st AF, First Command, 113th Army Air Force Base (Wing) D Squadron, Unit Combat Crew 193, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Oneida County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on February 22, 1943 in Utica, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Locomotive firemen and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24J #42-50534, which was normally stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, failed to return from a flight from Nassau, Bahamas back to Charleston.

Raymond was declared "Missing In Action" on this flight during the war.

Historical Note: It is unclear, and possibly unknown, from records whether this plane crashed on June 20th or 21st, 1944. They left Nassau on June 20th at 4:00 pm and the trip to Charleston normally took 8 hours which would mean they should have arrived at approximately 12:00 midnight. The last radio report was at 8:42 pm when they noted they were south of Jacksonville, Florida and on course.
