The tombstone shown with only the initials Z. A. M. is the final resting place of Zachariah Allen Morrow. Records inidcate he was probably born in Greene County Illinois, however the year of birth varies. The 1850 census for Mason county Illinois shows "Zachariah" as the 8 year old son of Joseph Morrow and his wife Nancy (nee Finley). He resided with his mother in Fannin county Texas at the time of the 1860 census and was shown as "Z. Altan" 19 years old. In 1870, 25 year old "Zechariah" and his second wife "Ellen E." (Ellen Ermine - nee Brown) his 4 year old daughter (Louisa Ellin Harriet Albertine Morrow) by his first wife (Louisa Eveline Duckworth), their 2 year old son (Joseph Samuel Morrow), and her 10 year old son (William Radford) from her first marriage (to Galatin L. Radford) reside with her sister Isabella and her husband John Clark. Also residing in this family are Ellen and Isabella's brothers Charles R. Brown and John M. Brown. The families are shown in the town of Clarksville, in Johnson county Arkansas. The ages of Zachariah and Ellen were incorrectly provided to the censis taker probably by one of the other family members. By 1880 the family has returned to Texas where 39 year old "Allen" and 34 year old Ellen E. are shown in Justice Precinct # 1 of Hill county Texas. Ellen has not been located in the 1900 census, however 59 year old "J. A. Morrow" is shown residing with his younger sister "S.H." (Susan Harriet) and her husband "B.F. Carey" (Benjamin Franklin Carey). They apparently ran a boarding house located at 303 South Second in Waco, McLennan county Texas. Zachariah apparently went to Pittsburg county Oklahoma after the 1900 census and before his death in 1908. His son, Francis "Frank" Marion Morrow worked in several of the coal mining communities, including Brewer where my grand-mother was born and Alderson where his first wife Sarah Kathryn (nee Garrigin) died. According to family lore, Zachariah Allen Morrow was run over by a tema of run-away horses that had been pulling a hay wagon. He lingered for several days before passing away. Chaney Funeral Home records indicate he died on March 18th 1908 in Savanna, Pittsburg county where he was interred in the Savanna Cemetery.
