Enlisted 5/18/61. Deserted 2/25/64. Federal reports list him captured 11/26/63 at Chattanooga. Sent to Rock Island Ill. until the end of the war. Listed as wounded slightly at Missionary Ridge 11/24/63. Listed as wounded severely at Murfreesboro 12/31/62. Probably the P.H. Cantrell in CV XVI p216. Was a member of "The Seven Confederate Knights" (C7K) in Rock Island. Survived the war. Had a son named A.J. Cantrell who wrote the article in CV. His wife (Elizabeth) filed a widow's pension. #2761 on 7/19/1909 in Warren Co. Application accepted. Maiden name was Elizabeth Purser, born in White Co. in 2/1828. Peter was born in DeKalb Co. in 1835, married in 11/1865 and
died 10/16/1905 in Warren Co.
He is the son of Green and Mary Cantrell.
