Vanda Lee Parker, of El Reno, succumbed to lengthy illness after a most graceful and gallant battle, going home to be with her Lord on March 18, 2007, at Mercy Health Center, in Oklahoma City. She was born to Edwin O. and Mae (Maier) Bowling, on October 17, 1928, at Stecker, Oklahoma, later moving a short distance to Cyril, where she grew up on a farm and went to school. Vanda Lee married Garland Parker of Cyril, on April 25, 1947. Soon after they were married, they moved to Oklahoma City, where she worked at John A. Brown Co. and attended business school. In 1948, they moved to El Reno where Garland began his career at Citizens National Bank and Vanda Lee worked for many years at the Canadian County Treasurer's Office. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Garland of the home; son, Gregory and wife, Cheryl of El Reno; daughter, Dr. Garlanda Parker Hughey and husband, Bob of El Reno; grandson, Zac Parker, wife, Venus, and great grandson, Jaxon of El Reno; granddaughter, Courtney Parker of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Landon, Ryan, Haley, Tyler Adam and Tori Hughey of El Reno; sister, Kay Smith and husband, Gomer of Cyril; nieces and nephews; precious friends, Leslie Roblyer and Jeanette Mitchell; and numerous good friends and club members. Vanda Lee was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in El Reno, where services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 23, 2007. Rev. John V. Chennault will officiate. Burial will be in El Reno Cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be made to either the First Baptist Church, 401 S. Bickford, El Reno, OK 73036 or to the charity of your choice.
