Jessie Brooks married Vearlene Averett on 2 June 1928 at Graham, Young County, Texas.

His parents moved to Milam County and lived in the Maysfield community. Typhoid fever broke out in the community in 1900. The Brooks family had the disease and killed many of the family including his mother. Six weeks after Jessie was born, his mother died.

After the death of James Brooks' family, he moved to Burleson County. Jessie Brooks went to live with his mother's sister, Ophelia [Frasier] Kerrigan to live until adulthood. The Kerrigan's had a farm between Newcastle and Padgett.

Brooks had lived in Young County for a number of years in the Newcastle and Padgett areas. He was a farmer and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survived by three daughters - Mrs. Frank J. Viola; Mrs. T.L. Dempsey and Mrs. Darwin Carr; two sons - Walter Brooks and Cecil Brooks; one brother - Jim Brooks; nine grandchildren.
