Singer, Songwriter. He will be best remembered for his recording of the hit single "(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want To Be Right", which reached number 3 on the Pop Charts in 1972. Raised in Alton, Illinois, he had a fondness for music dating back to his childhood. He participated in a group along with his siblings named the Midwest Crusaders and after a decade of experience on the nightclub scene, he landed a contract with Decca Records. As leader of a group called The G Men, he achieved minor success with the single "I Spy For the FBI" in 1965 under an affiliate of the Mercury label. Ingram achieved success as a songwriter with his co-penning of "Respect Yourself" for which became a platinum single for the Staples Singers in 1971. Ingram performed in the documentary feature "Wattstax" (1973). In later years, he suffered from diabetes and kidney disease. (bio by: C.S.)
