Mrs. Johnson, 76, of Rushford died on Wednesday (March 14, 2007) at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.
Beverly Flatten was born Jan. 22, 1931, in La Crosse and was raised in the Yucatan Valley of Houston County. She attended Yucatan Country School and graduated from Houston High School. She also graduated from Winona Teacher's College. She taught in the Yucatan Country Schools and in Spring Grove for eight years. She also worked as a substitute teacher for the Rushford School District. On Feb. 23, 1957, she married Donald LeVerne Johnson in Rushford Lutheran Church. She worked as a receptionist and secretary for SEMCAC in Rushford for 23 years and became the face of Norsland Lefse in Rushford, where she worked for the past 10 years. She was an active member of Rushford Lutheran Church for 50 years, where she served on the church council, was involved in WELCA and circle, taught Sunday school and was the current Thrivent Coordinator for her church. She was a past Boy Scout den mother and Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, cooking and baking.
Survivors include a son, Mark (Carolyn) of Rushford, Minn.; four daughters, Jacqueline Kjos of Galena, Ill., Christi (Scott) James of Byron, Brenda (Tom) Crews of Loveland, Colo., and Michelle (Steven) Larson of Rochester; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and an infant sister.
