Marilyn was the oldest of four children born to Robert & Edith Hamer.
As a child she excelled at school and music. She developed a life long appreciation and passion for learning ad the arts, which enriched her life greatly. At age 11, Marilyn contracted polio and complications from the disease affected her throughout her life. She was never one to complain, she accepted, the challenge with courage, faith and attitude that inspired others.
She continued her education and was involved in many extracurricular activities. She graduated from the University of with a degree in education. Among her many activities and honors were Delta Gamma Sorority, Mortar Board, and Phi Beta Kappa,
It was during her freshmen year she met her future husband of 61 years, Jerry Roe. They were married on March 24-1956.
Following a stint in the Military, Marilyn and Jerry returned to Omaha where she taught Benson then in Bennington. She retired from teaching full time in 1961. She continued to substitute teach in Bennington for many years.
Marilyn devoted herself in civic and social causes including the Junior League of Omaha, Omaha Symphony Guild, Fontenlle Forest and American Cancer Society, P.E.O and St. John Lutheran Church.
She loved to cook and entertain.
