William Lewis Sublette
Birth: c. 1799
Death: Jul. 23, 1845

Western Frontiersman. A fur trader and merchant, he grew up in St. Charles, Missouri. He left Missouri in 1822 to become a trapper, after becoming a partner of Robert Campbell in the Rocky Mountain Fur Trading Company. He helped open the Oregon Trail by using wagons in the Rocky Mountains and by finding a shortcut, now known as "Sublette's Cut." (bio by: Connie Nisinger)
