Solomon George Kitchen
Birth: 1820
Death: Apr. 10, 1891

Colonel, C.S.A. Kitchen first made a living as a surveyor but studied law & was admitted to the bar in 1842. He served as judge of Stoddard County & as a state senator, but was defeated in his bid for election to the Missouri convention in 1861 as a secessionist. In 1861 Kitchen organized a company of cavalry for the Missouri State Guard & rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel. When the State Guard's term of service expired, Kitchen enlisted in the Confederate service & soon commanded Company B, 2d Missouri Cavalry. Kitchen was promoted to colonel of kitchen's Regiment, Missouri Cavalry in 1863. This regiment took an active part in the war in Arkansas & was part of General Sterling Price's raid into Missouri in 1864. Kitchen was wounded at the battle of Big Blue on October 23, 1864. After the war, he returned to Stoddard County where he practiced law.
