Benjamin Louis Eulalie Bonneville
Birth: Apr. 14, 1796
Death: Jun. 12, 1878

Brevet Brigadier General. Born near Paris, France, Bonneville graduated from the U.S. Military Academy. His long service in the army was distinguished by his exploration of the Rocky Mountains (1831-1835) & service in the Mexican War. The Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah are named for him. Bonneville served as colonel, 3d U.S. Infantry & as commander of Benton Barracks in St. Louis. After retiring, he was honored with a brevet promotion to brigadier general for "long & faithful services in the army." (bio by: Connie Nisinger)
