Born to Edward Joseph Gilpin and Mary Lillan Courtney, this pretty, vivacious woman was a joy to know. Florence was the third of 7 children.
She married first to Jesse Muse. Two daughter, Vivian and Viola were born to them After his death she married Thomas Jerry Thornton.
Once she came out to CA. to visit her sister, Mae. My husband and I took them to Reno. What a trip! Aunt Florence wandered off by herself and when we found her, she had buckets of nickels. She said the machines kept ringing and spitting out nickels. Boy! Did we laugh at her. She was hitting jackpots and not collecting them. This was back in the 60's when the machine paid about a buck and the change person bought the rest. She didn't know this so she would put another nickel in and play off the machine.
When we finally got her out of there to go home she kept saying, 'Just one more nickel...please, just one more nickel.' She was so sweet.
Special thanks to 'Walt' for the picture of her headstone. We have only been to the cemetery once as it is in OK., and we are in NV. On that visit, we left flowers...and a nickel in memory of the wonderful time we had with her.
