VALENTINAS MELINIS, 69, of BRICK, died Tuesday, March 6, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Valentinas was born in Kaunas, Lithuania. He came to this country in 1949 and lived in Minersville, Pa., then lived in Matawan for 30 years before moving to Brick nine years ago. He was employed as a mechanical engineer in the Financial Review Dept. of N.Y. Telephone Co., New York City for 29 years before retiring in 1991. He graduated from East Side High School, Newark, and Newark College of Engineering in 1962. He did graduate work at Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. He was past president of Ruta Ensemble (choir), member of Sts. Peter & Paul church choir, active in Lithuanian community, president of the American Lithuanian Club of Whiting, member of the Knights of Lithuania, and director of Schuyler Savings Bank, Kearny.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Regina Stanaitis Melinis; four daughters, Ruta and her husband Joseph Didzablis, Gina and her husband Andre Grebenstein, Vida Melinis and her husband Charlie Kowalski, and Lina and her husband Paul Esposito; two brothers, Remigijus and his wife Birute Melinis, and Walter and his wife Diane Melinis; a sister, Mary and her husband Ray Mykolaitis. He was the grandfather of seven. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother-in-law of Irena and her husband Vytas Jadelis, nephew of Marija Melynis, and cousin of Dana Bilenas and her husband Jonas, and Juozas Melynis.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Brazinski Funeral Home, 147 Second St., Elizabeth. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral at 10:15 a.m. Friday from the funeral home followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass in Sts. Peter & Paul R.C. Church, Elizabeth. Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to Lithuanian Foundation Inc., 14911 127th St., Lemont, IL 60439, or Sts. Peter & Paul Restoration Fund, 211 Ripley Place, Elizabeth, NJ 07206.
