He was mobilized from the beginning of the war in 1941 and moved to the front where he was successively head of section and lieutenant of engineers. He participated in the Battle of Stalingrad, the campaign in Ukraine and the Polish campaign during which he was wounded and demobilized. For his feats of arms he will receive the Order of the Red Star, the Medal of Courage and the Medals for the Defense of Stalingrad and For the Victory over Germany.

He drew the script for the film The Soldiers directed by Aleksandr Ivanov (ru) in 1956.
