| Birth: | Oct. 15, 1866 West Dennis Barnstable County Massachusetts, USA | | Death: | Dec. 14, 1947 Manchester Hillsborough County New Hampshire, USA |  US Congressman. In 1881 he began work in a shoe factory, and by 1902 was head of his own shoe manufacturing business. By 1917 he had also become active in banking. He first ran for Congress, unsuccessfully, in 1934. Two years later he was chosen as a delegate to the Republican National Convention and also appeared to have won a seat in the US House of Representatives. He served from January 1937 until June 1938 when Alphonse Roy, who had contested Jenks' election, was declared the winner and took the oath of office. In their November 1938 rematch Jenks won the seat back. He was reelected in 1940 and served from 1939 to 1943. In 1940 he was again a Delegate to the Republican National Convention. After running unsuccessfully for Congressional renomination in 1942 and 1944, Jenks returned to his Manchester business interests. He was also a well known amateur golfer who won several regional championships and represented the United States at international competitions on many occasions. (bio by: Bill McKern)
