William A. Follett was born November 11, 1825, in Shalerville, Portage County, Ohio. He was converted to the Latter-day Saint faith and joined the Mormon Battalion. After he was mustered out of the Battalion he came to Utah and in 1855 was called to be a member of the first group sent to the Las Vegas Mission. He died October 25, 1885.
William A. Follett was a member of Company "B" of the Mormon Battalion, and according to Church history made the first deposit of gold dust on December 10, 1848, after public announcement was made that gold dust was to be minted into coin. He deposited [p.503] fourteen and one-half ounces of gold and received credit for $232.00 at $16.00 per ounce.
