Dougherty after an illness of a week. She had been in failing health for three years, but had been bedfast for only a week.
Miss Beckner was a daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Beckner and was born Feb. 6, 1850, in Dallas county, Missouri. She was the fifth of a family of twelve children. During the Civil War she came with her parents to Indiana and settled near Goshen, where they lived for one year, coming from there to what is known now as the David Bowser farm south of Bremen. After several years the family moved to a farm near Argos. Miss Beckner came to Bremen after the death of her mother and had made her home with her sister, Mrs. Dougherty, for the last thirty years.
Surviving relatives are four sisters, Mrs. Dougherty of Bremen, Mrs. E. W. Hess of San Diego, Cal., Mrs. Clara Blair of Rochester, and Mrs. Martha Bolen of Los Angeles, Cal., and one brother, I. M. Beckner of Goshen.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Church of the Brethren. Rev. C. C. Cripe, pastor of the church, officiating in the service. Burial was in the Walnut cemetery near Argos.
