Mrs. Dougherty was born and reared near Bonneauville, Adams County, PA. She was a daughter of Joseph and Magdalene Smith. She was born February 11, 1837, and married to Phillip L. Dougherty, January 11, 1859. Ten children were born of this union. Six sons and one daughter survive her. Two children died in infancy and Miss Lillie died eight years ago. Her husband died eleven years ago. Emma, Charles, Edward and Louis were at her bedside. Cletus and Frank are in Seattle and John was on his way home from that city, but did not reach home until Monday. Mrs. Dougherty was one of a family of thirteen children, three of who survive her, a brother in Lima, Ohio, and one brother and a sister in Hanover, PA. The Dougherty family moved to Kansas 28 years ago from Pennsylvania and have since resided here with the exception of six months in Atchison, Kansas.
