| Birth: | May 18, 1837 | | Death: | Feb. 16, 1918 |  Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he served as a Boatswain's Mate on board the USS Benton, Union Navy. On December 27, 1862, during the attack on the Confederates at Haines Bluff, Yazoo River, Boatswain's Mate Moore was wounded in the engagement. The enemy had a dead-range on the vessel and was punishing her with heavy fire and Boatswain's Mate Moore served courageously in carrying lines to shore until the USS Benton was order to withdraw. For most extreme gallantry, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on April 16, 1864. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
