MaryLou was born Nov 17 1930 in Penbrook to Karl F. and Kathryn A. (Haverstick) Hoffsommer, and died June 18 2017 at Kinkora Pythian Home with her family by her side.
MaryLou graduated from Penbrook School 1945, John Harris High School 1948, Polyclinic School of Nursing 1951, and Millersville University 1968. Over the years she held many jobs, having worked in Polyclinic and Harrisburg Hospitals, taught the Harrisburg Practical Nurse program, worked for the VNA, Camp Nurse for Woodielake and Southbrook, school nurse at Swatara Jr High, established and taught the Health Assistant Program at Dauphin County Vo-Tech and after retiring she continued with three more jobs…taught at Thompson Institute, was Staff Development Coordinator for Leader Nursing home and worked for Comfort Care of Holy Spirit.
She loved to read and travel, her entire life centered around her family.
MaryLou was predeceased in 2010 by her husband Earle F. Taylor Jr, they were married in 1952. She was also predeceased by her parents, and her brother George Hoffsommer.
She is survived by her two children and their spouses: Kathryne and Dennis O'Hara of Halifax, and Earle F. III and Ellen Taylor of Dauphin, with whom she lived. Also surviving are her grandchildren and spouses: Kayly and Nathan Newcomer of Penbrook, and Corin R and Jennifer Ream Teeters of Halifax; and four great-grandchildren: Holden and Ethan Newcomer and Sydney and Charlotte Teeters all at home. She also leaves two nieces Karen and Elizabeth Hoffsommer of Dover.
