John Lorenzen was born in Holstein, Germany, April 25, 1849, died at his home west of Ft. Calhoun on Feb. 7, 1928, having reached the age of 78 years, 9 months and 12 days.
In 1865, when he was 16 years old, he came to America and five years later located at Newton, Ia., where in 1876 he was married to Louisa Edeics. To this union six children were born, one of who died in infancy. The surviving children are Henry H. Lorenzen, Wm. Lorenzen, Miss Lulu Lorenzen, Mrs. P. C. Tucker and Mrs. Clark Browning. Mrs. Lorenzen died in 1887, and shortly after her death, Mr. Lorenzen came to Omaha, leaving the children with relatives. In December, 1887, he was married to Mrs. Marie Schneede, who died August 22, 1894. In 1888 Mr. Lorenzen purchased and moved to the farm on which he resided continuously until his death. Following the death of his second wife he remained on the farm with his son William and daughter Miss Lula, the married children residing in the neighborhood. He is also survived by a brother and a sister, and six grandchildren, and by two step-children, Hans Schneede and Mrs. Fred Schneider.
Although not in the best of health for some time Mr. Lorenzen’s death was entirely unexpected, the end coming suddenly following a heart attack during the night.
Mr. Lorenzen was the best type of citizen, a quiet, industrious man of strict integrity and faithful in the discharge of every obligation. He will indeed be missed in the community in which he lived for forty years and which he helped develop from the early settlement to its present conveniences and advantages.
The funeral will be held at the home this afternoon, Rev. Bader of Blair officiating, and burial will be in the Ft. Calhoun Cemetery.
