MRS. LORENZEN, 84, DIED HERE MONDAY

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 26th at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Anna Lorenzen, 84, Blair, who passed away at Blair Memorial Community Hospital Monday morning. The Rev. Don Killin officiated with interment following in Ft. Calhoun Cemetery.

Anna Elizabeth Von Lanken was born June 4, 1877 at Arthur, Illinois, a daughter of the late Geo. Von Lanken. She worked for her father in his shoe and general merchandise store in Arthur, taking over as manager at age 16 while her father visited Germany. When in the spring of 1899 the family moved to Blair and started “The Racket Store,” she continued her work for her father and for the Henry Bruse until her marriage to Henry H. Lorenzen December 18, 1910. They then moved to a farm in the Long Creek neighborhood, west of Ft. Calhoun. To this union, a girl who died in infancy; two sons, Arno W., who passed away July, 1935 and Edward who resides on the home place.

Mrs. Lorenzen was always interested in church work and for a number of years was superintendent for the neighborhood Sunday School held at Long Creek.

In 1940, she and her husband retired from the farm and moved to Blair. She was in business for a number of years with her sister, Margaret Von Lanken, in an apparel shop.

After her husband’s death in 1946, she lived alone until recent years when her sister, Margaret, sold her business and came to make her home with her.

Besides her son, Edward, and her sister, Margaret Von Lanken, she is survived by another sister, Mrs. Catharina Bruse of Boulder, Colorado; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Lester Stanley, Frank Hovendick, Stanley Ohrt, Gifford Nielsen, Allen McDonald and Clemens Neumann. The Sievers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
