Old Settler Passes Away

Peter Jansen, an old settler of the southern past of Washington County passed away on last Tuesday morning, after a short illness of about ten days.

Mr. Jansen, who lived nine miles south of Blair, was seventy years of age, having been born April 19, 1849 at Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, in that year.

He emigrated to American in an early day as so many of his countrymen did and finally accumulated one of Nebraska’s fine farms and was able to take his ease and live comfortably for a number of years before the end came.

He is survived by his eight children, three sons and five daughters, his wife having preceded him in death about three years ago next spring.

The children are Richard, of Washington, Nebr., Sophie, now Mrs. Henry Nohrnberg of near Blair; Pauline, now Mrs. J. W. Nohrnberg of near Blair; Adolph, who live on the home place; Emma, now Mrs. Wm. Heise of Douglas County; Ella now Mrs. Henry Heise of Douglas, County; Peter of near Blair; and Anna, now Mrs. Walter Peterson of Douglas County.

He leaves also two sisters, Mrs. Adolph Ackerman and Mrs. Chas Gottsch of Bennington, Nebr., and one brother, Jm. Jansen of Washington County.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon, (Friday) from the old home place and burial will be made in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
