Former Calhoun Woman is Dead
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 23, for Mrs. Bertha Blankenfeld, a one-time resident of Ft. Calhoun. She was 84 years old. She died at the hospital in Blair.
Mrs. Blankenfeld was born in Henry County, Illinois, March 2, 1880 and lived there for nearly 40 years. In the mid-20’s she moved to Fort Calhoun and made her home there for about ten years. In recent years she has been making her home with a daughter, Mrs. M.G. Christensen of near Tekamah.
Mrs. Blankenfeld is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Christensen and Mrs. H.A. Shannon of Omaha and by two sons, Floyd E. of Berkley, California and Emmitt who is on the island of Saipan in the South Pacific. Two sisters and three brothers also survive. She had 18 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Alder Grove Methodist Church at Craig, Nebraska, the Rev. Ronald Boswell of Craig conducting the service. Burial under the direction of the Sievers Funeral Home of Ft. Calhoun was made at the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
